Where: McAbbey Beach, meet at El Torito Restaurant's parking lot.
When: Saturday, June 14th. First dive starts at 10:00am sharp.
Type: Two short dives, easy entry, relatively easy dive site.
Carpoolers: Meet at the Dublin Pleasanton BART Station at 6:30am.
Downtown San Francisco Carpoolers coordinate other meeting point and time with Bill Mako Mooney bmooney@calidivers.org
Carpooling is entirely optional and it is not offered by our club, but rather coordinated between buddies as per their own arrangements.
The plan: two day dives, including pre-dive briefings, equipment buddy checks (optional) and review of dive safety tips (optional).
This is not a class nor are we guiding divers on this day.
After the dives it's lunch and a couple of drinks at El Torito.
Contact Bill Mooney or CaliDivers at bmooney@calidivers.org or calidivers@calidivers.org for more details.

Dive safely, dive at your own risk and enjoy your dives

OTTERLY HUMILIATED

Calvin and I dove Maccabee yesterday. The first dive was quiet, with viz btw. 5-10 feet. We saw crabs, small fish, etc. The second dive was similar, although viz was better due to more sunlight.

The end of the second dive was more interesting. Cal and I were maybe 30 yards apart, due to Calvin's kelp separation issues. While waiting, a fairly large otter (no pup) approached. His head popped up and he came a bit closer to check me out. I was very excited, having had limited otter contact, but his behavior was unusual. He swam directly at me on the surface, covering at least 8 yards in a straight line, staring at me the whole time.

I splashed water at him. He kept coming. I backpedaled (into some heavy kelp) and tried to get away. He kept coming. I thrashed harder. He kept coming.

I started yelling at him, and the otter finally disengaged. 2 minutes later, a kayaker paddled up to see if I was ok. All in all, not a proud moment.

No Calvins were harmed in the course of this dive report.

One of the funniest experiences ever!

You had to be there. This otter came up to me before it went over to play with Bill. Definitely an aggressive guy, but it was hard to tell if he was friendly or not.

After I chased it away with a little splash, he went over to mess with Bill. In my kelp struggles, I heard Bill screaming and splashing water at this otter. I won't be forgetting that anytime soon, and I'd like to invite all you in joining me to make sure that Bill doesn't forget about it....HAHAHHA

Great Dive. Thanks for leading Bill!

-Calvin
